Orally, 1-testosterone hes a very short half-life and is not very bioavailable because it is not methylated to avoid breakdown by the liver. When 1-testosterone is administered as a transdermal (absorbed through the skin), bioavailability is increased but its short half-life is still an issue. 1-testosterone was also sold as an injectable as 1-testosterone cypionate, which greatly increased half-life to about 4-5 days, making this the most effective way to use 1-testosterone. When injected, only 100-200mg/week is needed for an effective cycle.
For the off-season athlete there is no anabolic steroid more important or beneficial than testosterone. High levels of testosterone will promote significant increases in lean muscle mass and strength. This is assuming that the individual is consuming adequate calories. Compounds like Testosterone Propionate are not magical, you will still need to feed your body enough calories. During an off-season period of growth, this means total caloric intake will need to be slightly above maintenance. This will, unfortunately, promote body fat gain. However, the key to a successful off-season is gaining lean tissue while minimizing body fat gain to the fullest extent possible. By supplementing with Testosterone Propionate you will be able to achieve this more efficiently. High testosterone levels will promote a stronger metabolic rate. This is not a license to eat like there’s no end in sight, but you should be able to make better use of your calories.
Post-cycle therapy consists of a drug called a SERM, or Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulator. These drugs serve two purposes. First, they help to combat the effects of excess estrogen, which is beneficial in preventing estrogenic side effects like gynecomastia and weight gain after your cycle. More importantly, they stimulate the production of LH and FSH, easing your body back into natural testosterone production in mere days rather than weeks, months, or years. Failing to use a SERM could result in fat gain, muscle loss, and even testicular atrophy. For this reason, post-cycle therapy is a requirement – especially for men.
