Firstly, magnesium is necessary for the proper transportation of calcium across cell membranes. Why? Calcium needs other nutrients that help get calcium into bone matter. Those other nutrients are silica, vitamin D, vitamin K, and, you guessed it –  magnesium . Excessive calcium intake has been linked to heart health issues by staying in the blood long enough to calcify into arterial plaque.

Minerals are more important than vitamins, which struggle actually struggle without minerals. Thanks to modern monoculture farming methods that rely heavily on using chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and insecticides that are absorbed into the soil, out topsoil has been heavily depleted of its mineral content.

Edema is the swelling of tissues as a result of excess water accumulation. Peripheral edema occurs in the feet and legs. There are two types of edema, non-pitting edema and pitting edema. Causes of pitting edema is caused by systemic diseases (most commonly involving the heart, liver, and kidneys), and medications. Local conditions that cause edema are thrombophlebitis and varicose veins. Edema or swelling of the legs, feet, ankles, and face are common during pregnancy. Idiopathic edema is edema in which the cause is not known. Pitting edema is scored on pitting edema measurement scales. Edema is generally treated with medication.

Dr. Jockers, I am a personal trainer and health coach and have been on the ketogenic diet for over 2 years. Just in the last 6 months I started noticing bloating and stomach noises within an hour after eating. The baking soda test confirmed that I definitely have low stomach acid. I did and organic acid test and had slightly elevated arabinose, and hippuric acid, but other than that no real issues to speak of. I can’t figure out what exactly is causing my low stomach acid and if it could be related to the high-fat diet. I started doing one green smoothie and one keto meal and although that has helped I still am dealing with bloating and gas sometimes after meals. Any advice you could give a fellow ketonian would be greatly appreciated. I frequently send your videos and articles to my client because they are such good information and will continue to do so.
