Diabetes mellitus is a disease in which a person's blood sugar (blood glucose) is either too high (hyperglycemia) or too low (hypoglycemia) due to problems with insulin regulation in the body. There are two main types of diabetes mellitus, type 1 and type 2. Type 1 diabetes usually occurs during childhood, while type 2 diabetes usually occurs during adulthood, however, rates of both types of diabetes in children, adolescents, and teens is increasing.

More men than women have diabetes in the US, and the disease can affect men differently than women.

Warning symptoms of diabetes that men have and women do not include:

  • Sexual problems
  • Impotence (erectile dysfunction)
  • Decreased interest in sex
  • Retrograde ejaculation

Type 1 and type 2 diabetes symptoms and signs that are the same in men and women include:
  • Skin infections
  • Numbness or tingling in the feet or hands
  • Nausea
  • Excessive thirst or hunger
  • Fatigue
  • Irritability
  • Blurred vision
  • Weight gain
  • Weight loss
  • Urinary tract infections (URI)
  • Kidney problems

Treatment for type 1 diabetes is insulin, and treatment for type 2 diabetes are lifestyle changes like eating a healthy diet, getting exercise daily, and if necessary, diabetes medications.

Another very practical application of the antioxidant activity of blueberries is in the protection against Alzheimer’s disease and age related cognitive decline. In animal studies researchers have found that blueberries help protect the brain from oxidative stress and may reduce the effects of age-related conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease. Specifically, when older rats were given the human equivalent of 1 cup of blueberries a day they demonstrated significant improvements in both learning capacity and motor skills, making them mentally equivalent to much younger rats. When the rats’ brains were examined, the brain cells of the rats given blueberries were found to communicate more effectively than those of the other older rats that were not given blueberries.

I am 38 yr old, have had full hysterectomy. I am 80-100 lbs overweight, fatty liver. My mom battled both breast and ovarian cancer so i got tested and found out that I am BRCA gene positive for Ovarian, breast & pancreatic cancer. I was told recently by my doctor that i am estrogen dominant. (which explains so much of the troubles i have had most my life) She put me on some herbal supplements DIM & Chrysin. I am on the bio identical pellets with estrogen & testosterone. here is my question, there is SO much contradictory research out there regarding progesterone and breast cancer. I am so confused since i have the gene for breast cancer but i am also estrogen dominant as to if i should be on progesterone or not. From everything i read my body need progesterone to regulate my high levels of estrogen but then some sites say since i dont have a uterus i dont need it and it would raise my risk of breast cancer. Trying to be proactive about my health but i am on information overload.

As the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States, it's important to know the symptoms of colon cancer so you can do your best to catch it early, when it's most treatable. Some include cramping belly pain, dark or bright red blood in your stool, or a change in your stool frequency, like persistent diarrhea or constipation. Whole-body symptoms like unintentional weight loss, loss of appetite, or unusual tiredness may also occur in colon cancer. Iron deficiency anemia and jaundice, which are complications of colon cancer, may also develop.
